Svante Cornell – Georgia After the Rose Revolution: Geopolitical Predicament and Implications for U.S. Policy

This monograph outlines the possibilities for conflict in the Caucasian region and the qualities that make it a strategically important one, not only for Washington and Moscow, but also increasingly for Europe 다운로드. Cornell argues that the United States needs to develop a coherent and proactive rather than reactive policy toward the region. This must first include a reassessment of relations with Russia 다운로드. Moreover, a strategic approach to Georgia should include continued support for Georgia’s reforms; increased support for the internationalization of the peacekeeping and negotiation structures in Georgia’s conflicts; and measures to support increased trade relations with Georgia to provide for alternative markets 알라딘 ebook 다운로드.

Alexander Cooley & Lincoln Mitchell – No Way to Treat Our Friends: Recasting Recent U.S./Georgian Relations

Alexander Cooley and Lincoln Mitchell argue in this article that two flawed principles guided recent U.S. policy towards Georgia that failed to anticipate the 2008 conflict and prevent its escalation 다운로드. First, the United States supported the Saakashvili government, rather than promoting broader Georgian democratic development. Second, the United States backed reuniting Georgia’s territorial integrity, rather than acting as an honest broker to resolve the frozen conflicts with South Ossetia and Abkhazia 삼성 fn 메신저 다운로드. Over time, the strong personalized ties that developed between Washington and Tbilisi transformed the Georgian regime’s domestic policies and priorities into official U.S 다운로드. policies and goals, leading to an unhealthy capture of U.S. foreign policy by Tbilisi.

Laurence Broers – Recognising Politics in Unrecognised States: 20 Years of Enquiry into the de facto States of the South Caucasus

This article charts the trajectories of different concepts, theories and paradigms deployed over the past 20 years to understand de facto states in the South Caucasus, and in particular their internal dynamics 다운로드. It is argued that while external factors are central to the sustainability of Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Nagorny Karabakh, scholarship on these entities has increasingly over time asserted the relevance of their internal politics 다운로드. The article discusses how over the last decade this analysis has increasingly conflicted with the revival of the region’s central state authorities, whose conceptual reading and policy repertoires vis-à-vis de facto states remain focused on their external support structures 다운로드.
