Laure Delcour & Kataryna Wolczuk – Spoiler or Facilitator of Democratization?: Russia’s role in Georgia and Ukraine

This article examines Russia’s reaction to political changes in Georgia and Ukraine in light of the interplay between the democracy promotion policies implemented by the EU and US and domestic patterns of democratization 다운로드. We argue that despite the relatively weak impact of EU and US policies vis-a-vis domestic structures, Russia has responded harshly to (what it perceives as) a Western expansionist agenda in pursuit of reasserting its own hegemonic position in the post-Soviet space 다운로드. However, coercive pressure from Russia has also unintended, counterproductive effects. We argue that the pressure has actually made Georgia and Ukraine more determined to pursue their pro-Western orientation and has spawned democratization, thereby supporting the objectives of the Western democracy promoters s플래너.

Georgi M. Derluguian – Bourdieu’s Secret Admirer in the Caucasus: A World-System Biography

Bourdieu’s Secret Admirer in the Caucasus is a gripping account of the developmental dynamics involved in the collapse of Soviet socialism 다운로드. Fusing a narrative of human agency to his critical discussion of structural forces, Georgi M. Derluguian reconstructs from firsthand accounts the life story of Musa Shanib—who from a small town in the Caucasus grew to be a prominent leader in the Chechen revolution 다운로드. In his examination of Shanib and his keen interest in the sociology of Pierre Bourdieu, Derluguian discerns how and why this dissident intellectual became a nationalist warlord 경희대.

Exploring globalization, democratization, ethnic identity, and international terrorism, Derluguian contextualizes Shanib’s personal trajectory from de-Stalinization through the nationalist rebellions of the 1990s, to the recent rise in Islamic militancy 다운로드. He masterfully reveals not only how external economic and political forces affect the former Soviet republics but how those forces are in turn shaped by the individuals, institutions, ethnicities, and social networks that make up those societies 다운로드. Drawing on the work of Charles Tilly, Immanuel Wallerstein, and, of course, Bourdieu, Derluguian’s explanation of the recent ethnic wars and terrorist acts in Russia succeeds in illuminating the role of human agency in shaping history 함부로 애틋하게 5회 다운로드.

Max Bader – Against All Odds: Aiding Political Parties in Georgia and Ukraine

As part of a wider democracy promotion effort, political parties in Georgia and Ukraine, as in most other post-communist states, have received assistance from a number of non-governmental but government funded western organizations for most of the post-communist period 겨울왕국 2. This assistance, however, has persistently failed to contribute to making parties in the two former Soviet republics substantially more stable, democratic, and representative 다운로드. In searching for an answer to why the assistance has not been more effective, this thesis looks both at the nature of the assistance and the particularities of party politics in Georgia and Ukraine 다운로드. The thesis argues that, as a consequence of domestic constraints on party development, political parties in Georgia and Ukraine were essentially unsuitable as recipients of party assistance and that, therefore, party assistance was poorly positioned to make an impact 리눅스 sftp 파일.

Gela Merabishvili – Georgia’s Foreign Policy Priority: Relations with the European Union before and after the Change of the Government

Saakashvili and his government had a strongly articulated pro-Western foreign policy discourse directed at Georgia’s integration into the EU and NATO 다운로드. However, the actions of the government often did not follow the EU guidelines. This inconsistency was particularly vivid in Georgia’s ultra-liberal economic policies and poor level of democratic change 다운로드. The Georgian Dream government introduced a new dimension in the country’s foreign policy agenda: normalization of relations with Russia. While the opposition fears that the Russian dimension will endanger EU-Georgia cooperation, the pragmatic foreign policy approach of the current government leaves much hope for the closer political association and deeper economic integration of Georgia with the EU 음성 녹음 다운로드.
